Honeywell TARS-B IMU Sensor Array

06 Jun 2024

Honeywell has launched the latest update to their Transportation Attitude Reference System, TARS-B.  It is an enhanced version of the original Tars IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit), a sensor array designed to meet the evolving needs of heavy-duty, off-highway transportation.  The TARS-B series delivers precise data on vehicle angular rate, acceleration, and attitude.

It is used in vehicle position and tilt in defence ground vehicles and for chassis levelling in agricultural and construction vehicles to keep operator cabins level.  It is also used for boom/stick control for forestry and construction machinery, for loading and excavating buckets.  It can also be found in fork lifts and aerial platform vehicles, essential for keeping these vehicles safe and stable.

The TARS-B series marks a significant improvement over TARS-1.0. It features ruggedized PBT thermoplastic housing, ensuring durability even in harsh environments. IP67 and IP69K provides excellent environmental protection allowing, the TARS-IMU to withstand harsh conditions and can be deployed across various vehicles and applications.

The TARS-IMU, can be customised through the TARS Configurator Tool (TCT) software. This flexibility enables adjustments to parameters such as message broadcast rates, orientation, and filter settings, ensuring seamless integration into diverse operational contexts.  Additionally, its advanced filtering technology reduces unwanted noise and vibration, enhancing positioning accuracy.
